Wholesale Market Price Update

April 2013

Wholesale energy prices have fallen back somewhat this week as warmer weather is experienced in most parts of the UK, and several LNG imports are due for delivery. Fears over supply shortages of natural gas (which typically accounts for over 30% of UK power generation) were unfounded as Centrica announced that the Rough gas storage facility – which was reported to be completely empty - still had stock levels of some 10%, and imports through all the normal channels resumed with just a temporary reduction in output at the St Fergus platform of any note. As the weather is forecast to be above SNT over the coming week (and the expected rain and high winds will boost renewable generation), prices should continue to relax and a fall should be seen as injections into storage are made, boosting confidence.
